Kathy August Psy.D

 

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Kathy August has been practicing psychotherapy as a fully licensed psychologist in Michigan since 1992. She obtained her bachelor degree in psychology at the University of Michigan in 1984 and her doctorate in psychology (PsyD) at Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 1990. She received intensive training in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during her one year Internship at the Allen Park Veterans Medical Center, and her subsequent employment for three additional years.

She began her private practice in 1990 and furthered her expertise in the mental health field by attending many seminars and workshops regarding trauma, abuse, attachment disorders, dissociation, Imago Relationship therapy, domestic violence, mindfulness, guided imagery, and relaxation, as well as  mind/body stress and symptom reduction. 

In addition, Dr. August has gained specific training in:

  1. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a technique used to accelerate the processing and resolution of symptoms resulting from disturbing and/or unresolved life experiences.
  2. Clinical Hypnosis using techniques for ego-strengthening and self-esteem development.

Dr. August consults, trains, and presents to professional and community groups on trauma-related disorders.
