I am Dr. Kathy August. Welcome to my website. From my personal life experiences I have discovered that our thoughts and emotions greatly impact the well being of our mind and body. In order to gain healing, both the mind and body must be taken into account and dealt with as a whole rather than focusing solely on just thoughts and emotions or just physical manifestations and somatic (bodily) symptoms.
As a psychotherapist my goal is to create a safe, caring, and professional environment for my clients in order to help them feel at ease. I realize that it takes courage and strength to initiate the therapy process and to delve into one’s own difficulties and struggles in life. It is important to me that I assist my clients in creating a desire to make lifestyle changes by gaining self awareness and recognizing self-defeating behaviors. Once thought patterns that create negative behavior are recognized they can then shift into positive and self-affirming actions and cognitions.
“Our minds are as different as our faces: we are all traveling to one destination – happiness; but few are going by the same road.” This quote from Charles Caleb Colton has special meaning to me, and my hope is that by exploring this website you will find guidance to your road as well.
My specialties include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Abuse Issues, Mind and Body stress and symptom reduction, and Shame Based Identity Issues to name a few. For a full description visit my Specialties page. Please take a few minutes to browse through my website. You may discover a course of action that will lead you to mind and body wholeness.
